North Salem's Cyril DeGrasse Tyson, Sociologist, Educator, Activist, 89

Cyril DeGrasse Tyson, a leading figure in the development of urban social policy in New York City, and who devoted his life to the empowerment of all those who were disenfranchised, died at his home in North Salem, N.Y., on Thursday, Dec. 29. He was 89. Born in New York City in 1927 to immigrant parents from the Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and Nevis, he embarked on his career in public service after earning a bachelor's degree in Sociology from St. Francis College in Brooklyn and a master's degree in Social Service from Columbia University.

Somers Teen Charged With Arson, Burglary Of North Salem Home

A Somers teenager is facing felony charges after he broke into a North Salem home and allegedly attempted to set the house on fire using gasoline. State Police announced Friday that Jeremiah Healy, 17, has been arrested and charged with felony counts of arson, burglary and criminal mischief after he was caught breaking in through a kitchen window and causing fire damage in the home.

Report: Crash of Danbury-bound plane remains a mystery

Val Horsa and Taew Robinson are believed to be the pilot and passenger of a small Cessna plane that went missing Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, as it was headed to Danbury Airport. New York State authorities spent hours Thursday and Friday searching for the plane in a reservoir in North Salem, where debris from a plane have been located.
