43 Tickets Issued In Distracted Driving Detail That Includes North Salem

With police cracking down on distracted driving through the end of the weekend, New York State Police troopers dished out more than 40 tickets on Friday in the latest detail in the area. As part of April's designation as National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, state police announced an "Operation Hang Up" crackdown on distracted driving, which began on Thursday, April 12 and will continue through Monday, April 16. On Friday in Somers, North Salem and Lewisboro, troopers dished out a total of 43 tickets, including 15 for motorists using cell phones, 16 for speeding, four for not wearing a seatbelt and eight drivers for various violations.

Man Menaces North Salem Housemates With Knife, Police Say

Police intervention was required in Northern Westchester after a man allegedly threatened several people in his building with a knife, according to New York State Police investigators. An investigation into an incident last month led to the arrest of North Salem resident Edwin Martinez Ventura, 36, this week, who now faces charges that include second-degree menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, both misdemeanors.

A 41-year-old Fairfield County woman is behind bars after New York State Police say she threw a hatchet at a male victim and rammed his vehicle during a domestic dispute in Northern Westchester. Troopers responded to Spring Hill Road in North Salem to assist North Salem Police Department with a domestic dispute on Thursday, March 30 at approximately 9:30 p.m. An investigation determined the dispute began on Route 116 around 4:30 p.m. when Debbie P. Coller of Stamford is alleged to have rammed the victim's vehicle several times with her own vehicle, police said.
